The coastline of the great Ocean Road was the scene of a large range of shipwrecks. Ships were driven to the coast by the southern ocean swells and the human tails of bravery and peril form the basis for our regions link to Australia's maritime history.
 
Today you can discover many of these stories and sites of shipwrecks by following the Heritage Victoria Shipwreck Trail. The trail follows wreck sites along the coast from Moonlight Head to the South Australian border.
